A woman is dead and her sister and cousin are seriously injured in hospital after they were hit by a BMW as the family stood outside a leisure park.

The 25-year-old was crushed last night after a grey BMW 3 series mounted the pavement at Crawley Leisure Park, in West Sussex.

She had been standing outside the leisure complex at around 8.36pm with her 12-year-old sibling and 19-year-old female cousin.

They were taken to hospital with serious injuries where they remain.

All three women are from the local area. Their next of kin have been informed and supported by specialist officers.

A 33-year-old man, from Crawley, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drugs. He remains in police custody.

Police are appealing for witnesses who were on foot or drivers with dash cam footage to come forward.

Chief Inspector James Davidson said: ‘Our thoughts are with the victims’ family at this difficult time and we ask that the public respect their right to privacy.’

The collision occurred in London Road, Crawley, immediately outside the leisure park.
