As they prepare to celebrate their 14th wedding anniversary on April 29, the Prince and Princess of Wales are set to mark the occasion in a meaningful way — by connecting with remote communities in rural Scotland.
Prince William and Princess Kate, who tied the knot in a historic ceremony in 2011, will spend their anniversary on the Isle of Mull. There, the royal couple will visit the charming town of Tobermory, where they’ll drop by a local community hub and explore a vibrant artisan market. They’ll also visit a nearby croft to learn about sustainable farming and hospitality practices unique to the island.
Their visit continues into a second day, when they’ll be joined by local schoolchildren for a walk through an ancient woodland. The couple will meet with the Mull and Iona Ranger Service, an organization that plays a key role in environmental education, conservation efforts, and biodiversity protection across the islands.
Interestingly, while in Scotland, William and Kate won’t be known by their usual titles. Instead of being referred to as the Prince and Princess of Wales, they’ll go by their Scottish titles: the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay. These historic titles were passed down to them by King Charles III following his accession to the throne in September 2022.
The Dukedom of Rothesay dates all the way back to 1398, when it was first held by David Stewart, the son of King Robert III of Scotland. It remains the traditional title for the heir apparent to the Scottish throne.
In addition to their titles in Scotland, William and Kate also hold the titles of Baron and Baroness of Carrickfergus in Northern Ireland — an honor bestowed upon them by the late Queen Elizabeth II on their wedding day.
As they mark 14 years of marriage, William and Kate continue to embrace their roles across all corners of the UK — and this anniversary trip reflects both their deepening royal duties and their ongoing commitment to community engagement.
