Authorities in Kisumu East, Kenya, are actively searching for a man accused of brutally stabbing his 24-year-old ex-girlfriend, Cynthia Anyango, after she ended their relationship and moved on with a new partner.
The suspect, identified as Sebi Obonyo, allegedly attacked Cynthia at her new boyfriend’s residence in Nyakbong’ village, Kamjulu, around 4:45 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2025. According to reports, Obonyo stabbed her twice — once in the chest and once near the left ear — using a sharp object, leaving her with life-threatening injuries.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed the incident in an official statement, noting that the quick action of nearby residents likely saved her life.
“Thanks to the swift response of neighbors who heard her screams and rushed to the scene, the attacker fled before he could do further harm,” the statement read.
Despite their intervention, Cynthia was severely injured and losing blood rapidly. She was rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in critical condition, where medical professionals are currently working to stabilize her.
According to initial statements provided by neighbors, the suspect was reportedly enraged after being rejected and replaced by Cynthia. His attack is believed to have been a calculated ambush, taking advantage of the moment she was alone at her partner’s home.
“As she continues to fight for her life in the hospital, local residents are cooperating closely with police to track down and apprehend the suspect,” authorities added.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information regarding Obonyo’s whereabouts is urged to contact local authorities.
