A New York judge has dismissed one of the s*xual assault lawsuits against Sean “Diddy” Combs after the alleged victim, identified only as “Jane Doe,” failed to publicly disclose her identity.
U.S. District Judge Lewis J. Liman dismissed the case on Monday, having previously given the woman an opportunity to refile her lawsuit under her real name. The ruling indicates that the initial suit was filed last October, in which she accused the music mogul of attacking her at a party in 1995 and then striking her when she rejected his advances.
Her attorney, Tony Buzbee, had previously filed a motion in January to allow the case to proceed anonymously, despite objections from Combs’ legal team. However, the judge set a deadline of March 20 for the woman to reveal her identity in order to continue with her case.
“As of today, March 31, 2025, [Doe] has not filed a complaint in her own name, nor has she sought an extension of time to do so,” Liman stated in his ruling.
Combs’ legal team promptly dismissed the allegations made by the plaintiff and other individuals who have accused him of misconduct.
“This is the second case filed by these attorneys against Mr. Combs that has been dismissed in its entirety,” they noted in a statement. “It will not be the last.”
They further criticized the trend of anonymous claims, stating, “For months, we have seen case after case filed by individuals hiding behind anonymity, pushed forward by attorneys more focused on media headlines than legal merit. The other claims, like the one dismissed today, will also not hold up in a court of law.”
This lawsuit is part of a series of civil cases that have emerged against the rapper since he was charged with federal s*x trafficking offenses last September. Combs has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is scheduled for trial in May while currently being held without bail in federal custody in Brooklyn.
