While Prince William and Prince George enjoyed a father-son football outing in Paris, cheering on their beloved Aston Villa in the Champions League, there was a noticeable absence—Princess Kate and the couple’s two younger children, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
The Prince of Wales took George, 11, to witness Aston Villa face off against Paris Saint-Germain in a highly anticipated match. Although the evening ended in disappointment with Villa losing 3-1, William said it was a meaningful moment to share with his son.
“I wanted George to experience a night out away from home in a big European competition,” he said, calling the experience “a big deal.”
Joining them in the stands was Thomas van Straubenzee, a close friend of the Prince and godfather to Princess Charlotte. But back at home, the rest of the Cambridge family were tuning in from afar.
Speaking to TNT Sports, William revealed that Princess Kate, Charlotte, 9, and Louis, 6, were watching the match from home.
“I’ve left the other two at home, probably watching tonight, so we’ll wait and see who they support,” he said with a smile when asked if his children were Villa fans.
Though William admits he’s “a bit biased” when it comes to football allegiances, he’s open to letting his children choose their own teams. That said, Villa has clearly left an impression on young George, who has joined his father at several matches over the years.
The family’s football journey began in 2019 when William and Kate took George and Charlotte to their first Aston Villa game at Norwich City’s Carrow Road stadium. Since then, George has accompanied his parents to high-profile games, including the England vs. Italy Euro 2020 final at Wembley and the Euro 2024 final in Berlin.
Though Kate and the younger children didn’t make the Paris trip, it’s clear football is very much a family affair in the Wales household—whether in the stands or on the sofa.
