Royal fashion often leans toward tradition and modesty, but there’s one specific item that has been quietly banned from Princess Kate’s wardrobe: real fur.
The Princess of Wales has not been seen wearing any genuine fur since a minor controversy in 2018. While on the first day of a royal tour to Sweden and Norway—then pregnant with Prince Louis—Kate was photographed wearing a bobble hat during a visit to an outdoor ice rink in Stockholm.
Speculation quickly arose that the hat was a ‘Rain Fur Pompom Wool Beanie’ by Eugenia Kim, which features a pompom made of 100% arctic fox.
However, Kensington Palace later clarified that Kate was in fact wearing a version with a faux fur pompom, believed to be a near-identical alternative from the same designer. It’s also believed her gloves were faux fur and her coat was shearling.
Fashion expert Danielle Stacey noted that the Princess has demonstrated her commitment to ethical fashion choices before—highlighting that she was the first British royal to receive the Royal Family Order from Queen Elizabeth II made with glass instead of traditional ivory. This gesture aligned with Prince William’s efforts in wildlife conservation.
