The Gambia: Elderly Woman Rescued After Suicide Attempt Following Son’s Death

An elderly woman attempted to take her own life by jumping from the Sankulay Kunda Bridge in the Gambia on the morning of Thursday, April 17, 2025.

After plunging into the water, a local diver, Musa Foon, spotted her and swiftly dove in to rescue her.

Musa explained to the media that the woman had recently lost her son, which appeared to have triggered her distress.

“She was speaking about her son, who passed away recently,” Musa said. “She is now in police custody in Janjangbureh.”
