The Denmark Majesties And Their Towering Children Join Family Festivities After Glamorous Night Out

The Danish royal family made a cheerful public appearance on Wednesday morning, just hours after attending a dazzling concert in honor of Princess Isabella’s upcoming 18th birthday.

King Frederik and Queen Mary, accompanied by their four children—Crown Prince Christian, 19; Princess Isabella, soon to be 18; and 14-year-old twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine—joined other royal family members to celebrate Queen Margrethe’s 85th birthday at Fredensborg Palace.

The former monarch, stylish in a checked coat, stood proudly at the center of the palace steps, surrounded by her loved ones, including her sisters, Queen Anne-Marie of Greece and Princess Benedikte. Queen Margrethe officially abdicated the throne in January 2024, passing the crown to her son, Frederik.

As part of the birthday festivities, the Royal Life Guards Band performed a special concert in the Inner Palace courtyard to honor the beloved former queen.

A Royal Pup on the Loose

Adding a touch of lightheartedness to the celebration, Queen Margrethe’s loyal dachshund, Tilia, joined the festivities—but didn’t linger for long. After dashing down the palace steps mid-photo, King Frederik quickly stepped in to retrieve the runaway pup.

Fashion and Family Style

The royal family made a stylish entrance as they greeted crowds and photographers. Queen Mary, 53, looked polished in a paisley-print Zimmermann blouse paired with tailored navy trousers. Princess Isabella turned heads in a vibrant purple blazer over a white wrap blouse and black A-line skirt.

Princess Josephine wore a chic tweed blazer over a floral dress, while her brothers matched King Frederik in sharp suits, completing the family’s coordinated look.

A Grandson’s Gentle Gesture

One particularly touching moment came when Crown Prince Christian linked arms with his grandmother to escort her carefully down the steps. The former queen, who has used a cane since major back surgery in 2023, smiled warmly as her grandson supported her. Christian is currently training with the Guard Hussar Regiment in Slagelse, preparing for his future role as heir to the throne.

A Royal Reunion

Also in attendance were Prince Joachim’s sons—Count Nikolai, 25, and Count Felix, 22—who stood at the far left during the photo call. The brothers had also been guests at their cousin Princess Isabella’s birthday concert the night before, held at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen.

Crowds and Celebration

Royal watchers waved Danish flags and cheered from the palace grounds as the family posed for official photos. Standing proudly behind Queen Margrethe were her sisters, Benedikte and Anne-Marie, completing the multigenerational family moment.

Earlier that morning, the Danish royal household released two new official portraits of Queen Margrethe, taken at Fredensborg Palace to mark her milestone birthday.
