Popular merengue singer Rubby Pérez shared a heartfelt message with his U.S. fans just days before his tragic death in a nightclub roof collapse in the Dominican Republic.

At his final performance in New York, Pérez, 69, expressed his excitement about leaving the cold of New York behind.

On Friday, April 4, at La Nueva España restaurant, he told the audience he would be heading to Santo Domingo the following day to enjoy the warm weather.

“And on Monday I’m heading out, so whoever wants to come with me, let’s go,” Pérez said as he invited the crowd to join him in singing along to what would be his final performance in the U.S.

Tragically, just days later, on Tuesday, April 8, Pérez and 123 others lost their lives when the roof of the nightclub they were at in the Dominican Republic collapsed.
