Robert Downey Jr. celebrated a milestone birthday over the weekend, marking his 60th year, and his son, Indio, shared a touching tribute in honor of the occasion.
Indio, 31, who the Iron Man star shares with ex-wife Deborah Falconer, took to Instagram to celebrate his dad.
Along with his two younger siblings—Exton, 13, and Avri, 10, who Robert shares with his wife Susan Downey—Indio expressed his admiration for his father on his special day.
Indio, a singer, posted a striking photo of himself with Robert at Netflix’s Sr. AFI Fest Premiere in 2022, where the father-son duo looked nearly identical. He followed up with an even more heartwarming photo from his childhood, showing a young Indio planting a kiss on his dad’s cheek while Robert sported a white “Brat” t-shirt.
“It’s the big 6-0 for the legend @robertdowneyjr!” Indio wrote in his caption. “Happy birthday dad. You’re the best.”
Fans quickly filled the comments with loving messages, with one writing, “Soooo sweet,” and others chiming in with, “Age is just a number, tell your dad to never change,” and “Aww!! Happy Birthday to Mr. RDJ. Hope he has a wonderful day!!”
Indio’s mother, Deborah Falconer, also left a comment, saying, “Our boy. Happy Birthday Papa!!!”
While Indio has largely kept a low profile, he has been pursuing a musical career in recent years. He debuted his single “Headspace” in 2022, and in January 2024, released his debut EP Cigarettes in Bed, featuring five tracks.
In a 2023 interview, Indio revealed how his dad influenced his passion for music, recalling how Robert gave him his first guitar at age 12. “My dad actually really inspired me to play music when I was young,” he said, adding that he often listens to his father’s own album, The Futurist.
“I was very fortunate to grow up in an artistic family, which allowed me to develop my creativity and my talents,” Indio shared, expressing gratitude for the artistic environment his father helped create.
