Rivers State: Women Dressed In-White Rally In Support Of Emergency Rule

A group of women in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, staged a peaceful protest on Monday, April 14, expressing their support for the ongoing emergency rule in the state.

Dressed entirely in white, the women assembled at the Garrison Bus Stop in the city center at around 8 a.m., where they began singing solidarity songs and marching along Aba Road toward the Rivers State Government House.

The demonstrators voiced their backing for the appointment of Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retired) as Sole Administrator of the state, following the federal government’s intervention in the political crisis.

The rally comes just days after a separate protest by another group, ‘Rivers Women for Sim,’ who opposed the emergency declaration and called for the reinstatement of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18 in response to an ongoing political standoff between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, current FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

As part of the declaration, Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and the entire Rivers State House of Assembly were suspended from office for an initial period of six months.

Vice Admiral Ibas was subsequently appointed to oversee the state’s administration during the emergency period.
