Looking joyful and at ease, King Charles and Queen Camilla shine in a set of newly released portraits commemorating their 20th wedding anniversary, which they are celebrating this 9th of April.

The three tender images, captured by Getty Images royal photographer Chris Jackson, were taken shortly after Their Majesties’ arrival in Rome, where they are currently undertaking a four-day State Visit at the request of the UK Government.

Set against the striking backdrop of the Neronian spur of the Aqua Claudia in the lush gardens of Villa Wolkonsky—the official residence of the British Ambassador to Italy, Lord Llewellyn—the portraits exude quiet intimacy and regal elegance.

For the occasion, Queen Camilla wore a sophisticated white and beige coat dress by Anna Valentine, paired with a delicate Lily of the Valley brooch. King Charles appeared dapper in a classic navy pinstripe suit.

The portraits were shared via the couple’s official Instagram account, accompanied by a heartfelt message: “As we begin our first visit to Italy as King and Queen, we are so looking forward to celebrating our twentieth wedding anniversary in such a special place – and with such wonderful people! A presto, Roma e Ravenna! – Charles R & Camilla R.”

The couple will remain at Villa Wolkonsky during their stay in Rome and are set to mark their anniversary in grand style, attending a glittering black-tie State Dinner hosted by President Sergio Mattarella at the Quirinale Palace.

The milestone also recalls a poignant memory: exactly two decades ago, the then Prince of Wales delayed his wedding to Camilla Parker Bowles in order to attend the funeral of Pope John Paul II in Rome.

Although a meeting with Pope Francis, scheduled for 7 April, has been cancelled as the Pontiff continues to recover from pneumonia, the Vatican has not ruled out the possibility of a private audience, should the Pope feel well enough. The 87-year-old Pontiff made his first public appearance since leaving hospital on 6 April.

As Their Majesties celebrate two decades of marriage, the portraits capture not just a royal milestone—but a partnership marked by resilience, warmth, and shared purpose.
