The Princess of Wales is expected to celebrate a meaningful family occasion this week as her younger brother, James Middleton, turns 38 on 15 April.
Although Catherine is continuing her gentle and thoughtful return to royal duties, she is currently spending the Easter holidays privately with Prince William and their three children. Amid the break, it’s likely she will take time to honour her brother’s special day in a quiet, family-focused celebration.
This birthday holds particular significance for James, as it’s his second since becoming a father to baby son Inigo, whom he shares with his wife, Alizée Thevenet. The couple welcomed their first child last October, marking a joyful new chapter for the Middleton family.
A Close Family Bond
James has often spoken about the strong connection he shares with his family. Alongside their mother, Carole Middleton, James describes his older sisters Catherine and Pippa as “mothering figures” throughout his childhood.
“I jokingly say that I had three mothers growing up,” he previously shared. “I had my mother and my two sisters. They included me in everything, and they still do.”
As the youngest of the three siblings, James admits he may have had a few perks. “The pros are that you get away with quite a lot… But I was very fortunate. We had a fantastic childhood, and we still share that friendship now that we’re all grown up.”
A Gift of Love—and Dogs
The strong sibling bond has been expressed in many ways over the years, including James’s heartfelt gifts. He famously gave both of his sisters puppies from litters bred from his beloved spaniel, Ella. Catherine was the proud owner of Lupo, and now has Orla, while Pippa and her husband James Matthews are dog parents to Rafa.
“Wherever they go, they bring the dogs with them, so I see lots of them, which is lovely,” James once said, emphasizing the ever-present ties that keep the family close.
