Princess Isabella of Denmark celebrated her 18th birthday on Monday, and to commemorate the special occasion, a series of stunning portraits of the royal were unveiled.

However, it was a behind-the-scenes photo shared on Tuesday that truly captured attention for breaking royal protocol.

In the candid shot, Princess Isabella looked flawless in a striking tangerine gown and a glittering tiara. What stood out, though, was the royal’s decision to hold her iPhone—clad in a trendy burgundy case—in one hand, something rarely seen in royal portraits.

Alongside the photo, Isabella shared a heartfelt message: “Thank you so much to everyone who helped me celebrate my 18th birthday. It has been really nice that so many people have spent their time, thought, and effort to make my day so special. This means a lot to me.”

Royal fans were quick to praise the “modern Princess” in the comments. One remarked: “Does the dress have pockets for the phone? What a beautiful photo of a modern princess.” Another added: “Fantastic picture with a twinkle in the eyes and telephone in hand. Real youth.” A third commented: “Love everything about it. The big, beautiful smile, the fantastic dress, and all the jewelry—then the typical teenager’s indispensable companion: an iPhone.”

A Vision in Royal Heirlooms

In her birthday portraits, the Princess was seen adorned with several royal heirlooms, including the Daisy Bandeau Tiara, a glittering piece that originally belonged to Isabella’s great-great-grandmother, Princess Margaret of Connaught.

The tiara, which features turquoise, pearl, and diamond “flowers,” has been worn by numerous royals, including Isabella’s grandmother, Queen Margrethe, and her cousin Princess Theodora of Greece. Isabella also wore matching turquoise earrings to complement the tiara.

The royal household released a message alongside the portraits: “18 years ago today, Her Royal Highness Princess Isabella was born. The birthday is marked with the publication of the Princess’s first official gala portraits.

The Princess is photographed in the Knight’s Hall of Frederick VIII’s Palace in Amalienborg, and in the portraits, she wears the Order of the Elephant with a star chest, a turquoise and diamonds tiara, and a miniature Order portrait of her father, His Majesty the King.”
