A Nigerian police inspector and passionate Arsenal supporter, Stephen Enang, tragically passed away after watching his beloved team triumph over Real Madrid in a friendly match on Tuesday, April 8.
The incident occurred in Calabar, Cross River State. Enang, who hailed from Ekori in Yakurr Local Government Area and was attached to the Akim Police Division along IBB Way, reportedly slumped at a local viewing centre following Arsenal’s 3-0 win.
Eyewitnesses said Enang was in high spirits throughout the match.
“He was so happy, cheering every goal,” one viewer recounted. “Arsenal scored the first, then the second, and third. He jumped up in celebration each time. But after the final whistle, when we all started to leave, we noticed Stephen wasn’t moving. He was just sitting there, unresponsive.”
Bystanders quickly rushed him to the Police Hospital in Akim, where doctors tried to revive him, but he was sadly pronounced dead.
The sudden loss has shocked friends, colleagues, and family members who described Enang as full of life and deeply dedicated to both his career and his football club.
As of now, the Cross River State Police Command has not released an official statement regarding the incident.
