Olivia Munn Opens Up About Anxiety Filming Intimate Scenes With Jon Hamm Amid Breast Cancer Battle

In a revealing interview with the Los Angeles Times, Munn discussed how her diagnosis affected her self-confidence, especially during the more vulnerable moments on set.

“I was really nervous about filming any intimate scenes because of the scars,” Munn explained. “Some scars are visible in clothing, while others would only be noticeable when I’m completely nude.”

At 44 years old, Munn received her breast cancer diagnosis in April 2023 and underwent a double mastectomy just a month later, followed by four surgeries over the next ten months.

Despite these challenges, she continued to work on the Apple TV+ series “Your Friends & Neighbors,” where she portrays Samantha Levitt, the long-term mistress of Hamm’s character, Andrew Cooper.

“My character seeks a deeper connection than he’s willing to provide, and their only bond is through intimacy,” Munn described. “I wanted to portray that intensity in the s*x scenes, making them feel authentic and raw.”

Munn emphasized the importance of collaborating with an intimacy coordinator and engaging in personal reflection, which helped her navigate the emotional demands of the scenes.

“Although I felt insecure, I discovered that each time I performed, I became more comfortable,” she said. She expressed profound gratitude for her body, acknowledging its resilience throughout her health struggles. “I’m thankful for it because it carried me through this journey.”

Munn also shared glimpses of her recovery, posting photos from her hospital stay that highlighted both visible and hidden scars that shaped her experience, both on and off the screen.

Series creator Jonathan Tropper spoke highly of Munn’s bravery and honesty, saying, “When someone shares something like that, the priority is their well-being. We made every effort to ensure she could rest when needed and adapt her schedule accordingly.”

Tropper added, “It was easy to navigate those conversations because she is so open about her experiences—about everything, really.”

While Munn is now cancer-free, she acknowledged that the emotional impact of her journey lingers. “I will always be looking over my shoulder,” she reflected.
