Ogun State: Man Dies While Attempting To Steal Agemo Deity Statue

A man, whose identity remains unknown, reportedly died on Saturday, April 12, while allegedly attempting to steal the statue of the Agemo deity located at the Mafowoku roundabout on Folagbade Road in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

Residents of Ijebu Ode woke up on Saturday, April 13, to discover that the golden Agemo statue, which had been commissioned 21 years ago, was missing. The lifeless body of a young man suspected to be the thief was found beside the statue’s remains.

A viral video circulating online showed a man in a blue top lying motionless not far from where the statue had fallen.

Ijebu Ode resident Hakeem Quadri confirmed the incident to Punch, stating, “The incident is real; it happened right in front of my house. We all heard people making noise, and when I got outside, I saw that the Agemo statue, which had been commissioned about 21 years ago, was removed. The person believed to be behind this sacrilegious act had been struck dead.”

He added, “I learned that the body of the deceased had been moved to the mortuary.”
