Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra appeared almost unrecognizable on Wednesday when her father, Crown Prince Haakon, visited her at the Engineer Battalion in Brigade North, where she has been serving.
The 21-year-old Norwegian royal donned her military uniform, and with her hair slicked back into a tidy bun, she could easily be mistaken for one of her comrades.
During the event, Prince Haakon, who is currently acting as regent while King Harald enjoys a holiday abroad, expressed his gratitude to the troops, stating, “I want to thank you for your service in the Armed Forces.
“Along with thousands of men and women, you work every day to keep Norway safe.” He added, “You can be proud of the work that you do.”
Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s Military Career
In Norway, military service is mandatory for both men and women, with a requirement of one year for those born in 2000 and later.
Princess Ingrid has completed 15 months of initial service in the Army at the Engineer Battalion in Brigade North, where she has served as a gunner on a CV90 assault engineer armored vehicle.
Ingrid Alexandra and her peers decided to extend their service from the standard 12 months to 15 months.
