Meghan Markle opened up about the title that means the most to her in the latest episode of her podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, released Monday. While she holds several royal designations, Meghan shared that her favorite title isn’t a royal one—it’s simply “mom.”
The revelation follows a moment in her new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, where she corrected guest Mindy Kaling, clarifying that she now goes by “Meghan Sussex,” not Meghan Markle.
In her podcast conversation with lawyer, politician, and Girls Who Code founder Reshma Saujani, the Duchess reflected on the importance of motherhood. Reshma referenced a quote from Meghan that had stayed with her: “The most important title I have is mom.”
“You have this beautiful line that I quote all the time,” Reshma said. “And I so desperately wanted that title. You know?”
“I do,” Meghan replied.
Meghan is mother to Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, whom she shares with her husband, Prince Harry.
Later in the episode, the conversation turned to the topic of miscarriage—a deeply personal subject both women have experienced. Reshma spoke candidly about the emotional toll of multiple miscarriages while trying to build her nonprofit, sharing how she pushed herself to keep performing despite her grief.
Meghan reflected on her own experience, which she first wrote about in a 2020 essay, and which Prince Harry later addressed in his memoir, Spare.
“I’ve spoken about the miscarriage we experienced,” Meghan said. “And I think, in some parallel way, when you have to learn to detach from something you had so much hope for… to be okay at some point with letting go of something you planned to love for a long time.”
Reshma responded emotionally: “I feel like you’re reading my diaries. No one has said it that way before, but it’s exactly right.”
