Lord Charles O’Hagan, the godson of the late Queen Elizabeth II, has died at the age of 79 following a serious head injury.

An inquest held in Exeter revealed that he passed away on March 23 at North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple, with the cause of death determined to be a subdural hematoma, a condition often resulting from head trauma.

Lord O’Hagan had a close relationship with the royal family as the godson of Queen Elizabeth II.

His full name was Charles Towneley Strachey O’Hagan, and he served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Devon in two terms, from 1973 to 1975 and again from 1979 to 1994. Additionally, he held a ceremonial position as a Page of Honour to the Queen from 1959 to 1962.

Charles received his education at Eton College before going on to New College, Oxford, where he earned a BA in 1961 and subsequently an MA.

Queen Elizabeth became Charles’ godparent when she was still Princess Elizabeth. His grandfather, Maurice Towneley-O’Hagan, 3rd Baron O’Hagan, was a prominent politician in the UK.

Lord O’Hagan was one of the Queen’s 30 godchildren, although not all have been publicly disclosed; among them are Earl Spencer and David Armstrong-Jones, son of Princess Margaret.

In his personal life, Charles O’Hagan was married three times. His first marriage was to Georgian Princess Tamara Imeretinsky in 1967, which ended in divorce in 1984.

They had one daughter, Nino Natalia O’Hagan Strachey, born in 1968, who has become an art historian and curator. His second marriage was to Mary Claire Roose-Francis in 1985, but they divorced ten years later in 1995. Later that same year, Charles married his third wife, Elizabeth Lesley Eve Smith.
