You don’t often see members of the royal family weaving through London traffic on a bicycle—but Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones isn’t your typical royal.
Arriving on two wheels for an exclusive photoshoot at a charming mews house in Notting Hill, she makes an instant impression in a stylish vintage dirndl that channels the spirit of her late grandmother, Princess Margaret.
At just 22, Margarita—the 28th in line to the throne and daughter of David Armstrong-Jones, 2nd Earl of Snowdon, and the Hon. Serena Stanhope—is carving out her own creative path, though her connection to Princess Margaret is never far from her mind.
“She had this international flair for style and fun,” Margarita reflects. “Her fashion sense is so loved—and yes, it influences me. But I also have my own style. I do what feels natural.”
Known to many as a bridesmaid at Prince William and Princess Kate’s wedding at just eight years old, Margarita is now an emerging jewellery designer, with her brand Matita reflecting her love for eclectic fashion, travel, and global design. Christened Margarita Elizabeth Rose Alleyne, she has a taste for sourcing unique fabrics and gemstones from around the world—much like her grandmother once did.
During the shoot, Margarita lights up when shown vintage photos of Princess Margaret on the island of Mustique, where she once owned a home. “That peachy dress is pretty cool,” she says with a smile, pointing to one of her grandmother’s breezy island looks.
Creativity clearly runs in the family. Her father, David Linley, is a renowned furniture designer, while her grandfather, Antony Armstrong-Jones—the 1st Earl of Snowdon—was a celebrated portrait photographer. Growing up surrounded by artistry helped shape Margarita’s world.
“I was always encouraged to be curious and ask questions,” she shares. “That was Dad’s mantra—‘Be curious and be different.’ It stuck with me.”
As for photography, she believes her grandfather’s talent may have rubbed off. “He was an extraordinary photographer. I just bought one of his books on London architecture—it’s amazing. The people he captured were iconic.”
And the camera clearly loves her, too. Whether in a selection of designer looks or striking a pose in a playful Louis Vuitton mini dress—her personal favorite from the shoot—Lady Margarita is effortlessly blending heritage with her own modern flair.
