The daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, 43, has been appointed as the patron of Restore the Music, a charity dedicated to supporting music departments in state schools.
In her new position, Lady Gabriella expressed her enthusiasm, stating to Richard Eden: “Music can do so much to help build confidence, imagination, and social skills—qualities that are essential for learning. It is a true honor to serve as patron of this remarkable charity.”
This is not Lady Gabriella’s first interaction with the organization; she previously collaborated with the Duchess of Cambridge during the ‘Together At Christmas’ carol concert last December.
The event featured performances by musicians supported by Restore the Music, including Paloma Faith, Olivia Dean, and Gregory Porter, who entertained guests at Westminster Abbey.
A passionate advocate for music herself, Lady Gabriella is also a singer-songwriter under the name Ella Windsor.
In 2020, she released her jazz music to support the Playing For Change Foundation. Reflecting on her music journey, she shared, “It’s a bit daunting but also exciting. I’ve always loved music, but I never imagined I would be involved in this way—releasing my own songs.”
Lady Gabriella’s new role comes in the wake of her husband’s passing, who shared her passion for music.
In a previous interview, she revealed, “He has been wonderfully supportive and gracious. He doesn’t mind when I experiment with ideas in my study, and he loves music as well. On one of our first dates, we saw the Playing for Change Band at Camden Roundhouse.”
During the same interview, she fondly recalled performing one of her songs, “Out of the Blue,” at their evening wedding reception in central London. “Throughout the night, a few of us took to the stage to sing with the band. It was getting late, and I’m not sure I sounded my best, but one of the singers added some backing, so I hope that helped. It was such a nerve-racking day, and I thought, ‘I might as well throw this in, too!'”
