King Charles and Queen Camilla have arrived in Rome, marking the beginning of their historic four-day State Visit to Italy.

Their Majesties’ RAF flight, escorted by two F-35 jets from the Italian Air Force, landed at Ciampino Airport, where they were greeted on the tarmac by a Guard of Honour.

A lineup of British and Italian officials, including Foreign Secretary David Lammy, the UK’s Ambassador to Italy and San Marino, Lord Llewellyn, and Italy’s Ambassador to the UK, Inigo Lambertini, along with his wife Maria Grazia, were on hand to welcome them.

As the King and Queen walked along the red carpet, they paused to acknowledge the flags of both nations, accompanied by Lord Llewellyn and Bruno Antonio Pasquino, the head of protocol at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development.

“Her Majesties will engage in something intangible yet priceless,” remarked Lord Llewellyn prior to their arrival. “Their visit will reinforce the bond between our nations in a unique way, creating memories that will endure for generations. Their affection for Italy and the things its people hold dear—culture, cuisine, and heritage—deeply resonates. This State Visit unites the very best of Italy and Britain, showcasing the strong friendship, alliance, and partnership between our countries.”

The trip aims to enhance cooperation in various areas, including defense, sustainability, and clean energy, while also celebrating cultural connections as the UK recalibrates its relationship with its European partners.
