The Kano State Hisbah Board has taken action to dismantle a makeshift pilgrimage site where individuals gathered to drink mud water, following unverified claims that the location bore the footprint of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Located near the Dakata Industrial Area, the site had recently been cleared to make way for railway development. However, it drew attention when a muddy imprint was discovered on the ground, alongside water seeping from the site.
Some Muslim faithful believed the imprint was the Prophet’s footprint, leading hundreds of people to the site to drink, bathe, and collect the water, believing it to have divine healing powers.
In response to the growing activity at the site, Muhahideen Aminudeen, Deputy Commander of the Kano Hisbah Board, stated that the board acted swiftly after receiving reports about the escalating situation. He denounced the claims as fabricated and dangerous, highlighting the lack of any religious or historical basis for such assertions.
“Some individuals spread this false story claiming the site was a holy place where the Prophet set foot,” Aminudeen said. “Unfortunately, many people who lacked proper knowledge of Islam were misled. We deployed officers to the scene to educate the people and dismantle the site to prevent further harm.”
Aminudeen also emphasized that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) never visited Africa, let alone Kano, during his lifetime.
He urged the public to seek authentic Islamic knowledge to avoid falling victim to such misleading claims.
“This type of misinformation can lead people astray and even pose health risks,” he warned. “We urge parents to ensure their children receive proper Islamic education.”
The Deputy Commander also cautioned residents against consuming water from the site, warning that it could be contaminated due to its proximity to industrial activity.
The Hisbah Board has stated it is investigating the source of the false claim.
