Prince Harry was kept in the dark about King Charles’ recent hospital visit, as revealed by The Sun’s Royal Editor Matt Wilkinson in the latest episode of A Right Royal Podcast.
According to Matt, palace officials made a conscious effort to avoid making a “drama” out of Charles’ hospitalisation, not wanting to make it seem more serious than it actually was.
Matt explained: “Harry wasn’t told. From what I understand, they didn’t want to add to the drama or make it appear more serious than it was. Regarding Charles’ brief hospitalisation, Matt continued: “I got in trouble because we were told, ‘This is not a drama. It’s just a bump in the road.’ But when I thought about it, the King has been undergoing cancer treatment for over a year now, having weekly sessions, and he had to cancel two days’ worth of engagements for an unscheduled hospital visit… For me, the King going to the hospital is a major story. That’s why it was front-page news—it was a drama.”
Along with podcast hosts Emmy Griffiths and Andrea Caamano, and HELLO!’s Royal Editor Emily Nash, Matt also discussed how Queen Camilla is often “frustrated” by Charles’ refusal to “slow down,” pointing out that the King continued to work even after leaving the hospital. Matt added, “He had 18 engagements in 10 days before going to the hospital. I don’t think that’s a coincidence.”
