A camera captured the chilling moment a gunman fatally shot a father through a broken window on a residential street in County Durham, England.
The disturbing footage, shared on social media, shows a group walking along Elm Street in Stanley around 5:17 p.m. on Saturday, April 5. One individual appears to break the window of a house that opens directly onto the street.
Another person, with their hood up, then reaches into their pocket, pulls out a gun, and fires a shot inside. The sound of a man’s scream follows immediately, followed by his son shouting, “They shot my dad,” as the attackers flee the scene.
The 60-year-old victim was declared dead at the scene. Neighbors described him as a “lovely guy” who was well-known in the community and always greeted others with a smile and a friendly hello.
Floral tributes were left at the site of the shooting, where the community continues to mourn the tragic loss. Durham Police confirmed that his family had been notified and is receiving support from specially trained officers.
Detectives arrested a 37-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. Both remain in police custody as the investigation continues. Police have also cordoned off the scene, which is expected to remain in place for some time, as officers knock on doors to gather evidence from local residents.
A 35-year-old neighbor told The Chronicle that she heard a loud bang and saw two young men running away from the scene. “It was really loud. It’s scary to think people can get hold of stuff like that. You wouldn’t think anyone around here would have a gun,” she said.
Investigators were seen using a drone to gather evidence, and the local paper’s reporter noted that officers were also measuring a hole in the window, which appeared to have been caused by a gunshot.
