Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has appealed to U.S. President Donald Trump to “force Russia into peace.”
Trump, who has previously voiced his frustration with Vladimir Putin for undermining Zelensky’s credibility, expressed his anger at the Russian leader, saying he was “p*ssed off” with him after Putin insisted that war-torn Ukraine required new leadership.
In a post on X on Sunday night, the 47-year-old Ukrainian leader stated, “Currently, Russia continues to seek excuses to prolong this war. Putin has been playing the same game since 2014.”
“This situation is dangerous for everyone, and there needs to be a corresponding response from the United States, Europe, and all our global partners who advocate for peace.”
Zelensky’s message on X followed Trump’s warning that Russia could face a new wave of severe economic sanctions due to stalled peace negotiations. During an interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker, Trump suggested these sanctions could involve tariffs ranging from 25 to 50 percent on Russian oil, as reported by the Mirror.
He also cautioned that any countries purchasing oil from Russia would face restrictions, stating, “You can’t do business in the United States.”
