A Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti has remanded 20-year-old Joy Ikoja for her alleged attempt to cut off her boyfriend’s manhood.
The Ekiti State Police Command brought Ikoja before the court, charging her with unlawfully inflicting a wound on Ibrahim Usman by tearing his scrotal sac.
Prosecutor Inspector Adeboye Adesegun informed the court that the incident occurred on April 12 at approximately 8:00 PM in the Irona area of Ado-Ekiti. He stated that Ikoja conducted herself in a way that was likely to disturb public peace during the altercation with Usman.
The prosecutor emphasized that her actions violated Sections 186 and 255, as well as Sections 256(a) and 181(d) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, Nigeria 2021.
Defense counsel Barrister David Ogbede requested bail for his client, asserting that she would not flee and was presumed innocent under the law. However, the prosecutor opposed this request, citing concerns that Ikoja might abscond, especially since her current name differs from one previously used in a separate court case that had been dismissed.
In his ruling, Magistrate Olatomiwa Daramola denied bail, ordering that Ikoja be remanded in the Correctional Custody in Ado-Ekiti.
