Sporting power couple Bastian Schweinsteiger and Ana Ivanovic are reportedly at a critical juncture in their marriage.
The German World Cup winner and former Bayern Munich and Manchester United player, 40, and ex-tennis star Ivanovic, 37, were married in 2016 and share three sons. However, nearly nine years after their picturesque wedding in Venice, their relationship is said to be struggling, according to reports from Bild.
The German publication claims that the couple’s bond has been strained due to prolonged periods apart. Schweinsteiger’s frequent travels leave Ivanovic to care for their children in her hometown of Belgrade, Serbia. Currently, Schweinsteiger is in Jakarta, Indonesia, while Ivanovic relies on her parents and brother for support.
Moreover, the couple has been rarely seen together publicly in recent months. Their last joint appearance was at the Laver Cup tennis tournament in Berlin last September, and the most recent post on Instagram that featured both of them was from December when they visited a Christmas market in Vienna.
Bild reached out to Schweinsteiger’s management for comment, but they declined to discuss private matters concerning the couple.
Schweinsteiger and Ivanovic first crossed paths in New York in 2014, and just a few months later, he proposed in a London park. Their wedding took place in July 2016, shortly before Ivanovic retired from tennis in December of that same year after winning the French Open in 2008.
