Can The Prince And Princess Of Wales Travel Overseas Without Their Three Kids?

Following Prince William’s exciting announcement that the 2025 Earthshot Prize will take place in Brazil, many fans are speculating whether he will be joined by his wife, Princess Kate, for this special overseas trip.

Kate has previously attended the Earthshot events, including the inaugural ceremony in London in 2021 and the 2022 event in Boston. However, in recent years, she has missed the last two events, with William traveling solo to Singapore in 2023 and Cape Town the year before.

While it’s not yet confirmed, it’s likely that William will travel to Rio de Janeiro in November 2025 for the Earthshot Prize, coinciding with Brazil’s hosting of the Cop30 UN climate change summit. He has never missed an Earthshot ceremony, so his participation seems almost certain.

William has also hinted that Kate has been disappointed about missing recent Earthshot events, making the possibility of a joint trip to South America a real prospect. In 2024, when Kate stayed home to focus on her health after stepping back from public duties due to cancer treatment, William shared, “My children would love to be here, so would Catherine.”

Now in remission since January 2025, Kate enjoyed a private family holiday in Mustique for her mother Carole’s 70th birthday with her children and siblings. However, she hasn’t yet embarked on any major international trips since revealing her health challenges in March 2024.

This may soon change, as William mentioned in late 2024 that the couple hopes for more royal trips the following year. “Hopefully Catherine will be doing a bit more next year, so we’ll have some more trips maybe lined up,” he said.

As for their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, the couple has prioritized their education, which has kept them from attending Earthshot events in the past. William explained Kate’s absence in 2023, saying, “Catherine is very sorry she can’t be here. She is helping George through his first set of major exams.”

Looking ahead to Brazil, William expressed excitement about the location, noting the country’s rich biodiversity and leadership in renewable energy. He added, “2025 marks the midway point of the Earthshot decade, and each year we’ve seen the remarkable power of human ingenuity in addressing our planet’s most pressing challenges.”

With such a significant milestone for Earthshot in 2025, it seems likely that the royal couple will have plenty of royal travel in the year to come, perhaps without their children tagging along this time.
