Bear Grylls brought a smile to his fans this week by sharing a heartwarming family photo to celebrate his son Marmaduke’s 19th birthday. The joyful image showed Bear beaming in the center, surrounded by his wife, Shara, and their sons, who resemble each other closely.
Jesse, 21, looked sharp in a pastel blue and white striped shirt, while Marmaduke sported a pale blue shirt and navy trousers.
In addition to the birthday photo, Bear shared a snap of himself and Marmaduke enjoying a plate of ribs together, as well as a selfie of the family sitting side-by-side in a large venue.
In his caption, Bear expressed a mix of pride and longing, writing: “Happy 19th birthday Marmaduke! Our first one apart as a family and we miss you. Stay safe on those motorbikes…”
Fans and friends flooded the comments with warm birthday wishes. One wrote: “Beautiful picture. I’m sure Marmaduke feels the love,” while another commented: “Beautiful family,” and a third added, “The years are flying!”
The moment was bittersweet for the Grylls family, as Marmaduke is currently traveling in Asia.
Earlier this year, Bear shared a heartfelt update, saying: “So sad but also happy for Marmaduke – saying goodbye to him here in Australia as he heads to Asia for four months. He’s worked hard in a butcher’s in London, earned his way, and is now going off on his own adventure… have fun, stay safe, come home soon. We miss you.”
Along with Marmaduke and Jesse, Bear and Shara are also parents to a son named Huckleberry. Although Bear tends to keep his family life private, he occasionally shares insights into his parenting style. In 2021, he revealed that his boys are following in his footsteps, especially when it comes to their love of the outdoors.
“All the boys are so different, and like all teenagers, they change their mind pretty often, but they have a great spirit and have grown up to love the outdoors,” Bear shared. “Scouts has been amazing like that for so many families—encouraging friendships and a respect for nature. Those things are important.”
