A 17-year-old has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of another 17-year-old during a confrontation at a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, on Wednesday, April 3.
The incident occurred around 10 AM at Kuykendall Stadium, part of the Frisco Independent School District, where students were competing in the University Interscholastic League’s (UIL) District 11-5A championship.
According to Frisco Police, Karmelo Anthony, a student at Frisco Centennial High School, allegedly stabbed Austin Metcalf, a student from Frisco Memorial High School, following an argument at the event.
Details regarding the nature of the dispute have not been disclosed. After the stabbing, lifesaving efforts were administered to Metcalf, but he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Anthony has been charged with first-degree felony murder and is currently being held without bond.
In a statement, the Frisco Police Department expressed condolences to those affected by the tragedy, saying, “The Frisco Police Department grieves with all those impacted by this devastating loss and extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family, as well as to students and staff who are experiencing unimaginable pain.”
The department confirmed it is in close cooperation with the Frisco Independent School District and is providing necessary support.
Metcalf, who maintained a 3.97 GPA and was known as a 6-foot, 220-pound football player, had previously shared his beliefs in faith and hard work on social media. His final post on X (formerly Twitter) read, “Faith that God got me and my work will pay off.”
Anthony, described as a 5-foot-10, 175-pound football player with a 3.7 GPA, remains in custody as the investigation is ongoing.
