A shocking discovery was made in a Costa del Sol apartment when the mummified remains of a woman, who had been deceased for 14 years, were uncovered.

The unsettling find was made by a squatter who forced entry into the locked property alongside his 11-year-old daughter. According to Mail Online, the pair fled the apartment in Malaga on Monday afternoon upon discovering the body and subsequently alerted neighbors.

Police officials indicated that the process of skeletonization had occurred, marking the final stage of decomposition where soft tissues have decayed, leaving only the skeleton visible. Preliminary forensic tests estimate the time of death to be approximately 14 years ago.

Investigators believe that the deceased woman may be a Spanish national who was around 85 years old at the time of her death, which is thought to have occurred shortly after the passing of her husband. However, her identity has not yet been confirmed.

Authorities are actively working to locate the woman’s relatives to identify her and ascertain the circumstances surrounding her death.

The apartment building where the remains were found is known for a high turnover of residents, and police have noted that the open windows may have helped to mask any odors associated with a decaying body.
