The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Muniru Haruna, for allegedly defiling his neighbor’s three-year-old daughter.
Command spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident in a statement, revealing that the suspect lured the child into his room while she was playing outside.
The victim’s mother, 20-year-old Alaba Abdullahi, raised the alarm after hearing her daughter crying. Upon investigating, she found the little girl emerging from Haruna’s room, walking unsteadily and appearing distressed.
“On March 1, 2025, at about 11:00 a.m., the local police outpost in Orile-Ilugun received a distress call from Abdullahi regarding her daughter,” Odutola stated.
“She reported that Muniru Haruna, a resident of the same area, allegedly committed the act while the child was playing nearby. Upon further examination, the girl had difficulty walking and showed signs of physical trauma.”
The child was immediately taken to General Hospital Odeda for medical evaluation and treatment, while authorities await the doctor’s report.
Although Haruna has denied the allegations, the case has been referred to the Division Crime Branch for further investigation and will be transferred to the State CID in Eleweran upon completion of the preliminary inquiry.
The police reiterated their commitment to safeguarding the public, particularly vulnerable children, and ensuring that justice is served.
