Detective Melissa Mercado, an NYPD officer who drew attention for her role as a stripper in a provocative music video, has been taken off active sex crimes cases while the department conducts a review.
Law enforcement sources confirm that Mercado, recognized for her strong investigative skills, is no longer assigned to the Special Victims Unit—responsible for handling alleged sex crimes—pending the outcome of the investigation.
The NYPD is currently examining whether Mercado adhered to department protocols regarding off-duty employment. Officers are required to submit paperwork if they engage in secondary jobs outside their police duties.
It remains uncertain whether Mercado violated any department regulations by participating in the Doin That music video, in which she appeared wearing a bra and G-string. The New York Post was the first to report on the department’s investigation into her actions.
Mercado went viral after her appearance in the video, where she danced seductively in a club, VIP room, and on a bed in lingerie. S-Quire, the rapper behind the song, and the video’s director, Pitch Perfect, told TMZ that Mercado was hired through a casting agency, and they were unaware she was a police officer.
The NYPD has yet to issue an official statement on the ongoing review.
