A man has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting dead the administrator of a community WhatsApp group for removing him from the chat, police reported on Saturday, March 8.
Mushtaq Ahmed was killed on Thursday evening, March 6, in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a province known for its history of violent sectarian conflicts.
Authorities have charged a Pakistani man identified only as Ashfaq in connection with the murder, according to police documents reviewed by AFP and a local police official.
Mushtaq reportedly removed Ashfaq from the group after a disagreement, as outlined in a statement from Mushtaq’s brother. He stated that both men had agreed to meet to resolve their differences, but Ashfaq allegedly arrived armed and opened fire, resulting in Mushtaq’s death.
Ashfaq’s actions were described as a reaction to his removal from the WhatsApp group, according to the police statement.
