Hundreds of Palestinians took to the streets in northern Gaza on Tuesday, demanding Hamas be removed from power and calling for an end to the war. The demonstrators, however, did not directly address the issue of Israeli hostages still being held by armed groups.
In one video, protesters were heard chanting, “The people want Hamas to go,” a rare and open expression of opposition against the group after months of silence.
Many protesters carried white flags as a symbol of their support for an immediate ceasefire.
In another clip, demonstrators repeatedly chanted “We want to live,” a slogan that has been used in previous protests against Hamas, reflecting deep frustration over widespread poverty and hardship.
According to Palestinian sources linked to Fatah, hundreds of residents in Beit Lahia participated in what was described as a “march of rage.” Protesters called for an end to the war and the removal of Hamas, chanting: “Our children’s blood is not cheap,” “We want to live in peace and security,” “Stop the bloodshed,” and “Out, out, Hamas.”
The demonstration comes amid a wave of intense airstrikes across Gaza and a recent suspension of humanitarian aid deliveries.
Meanwhile, the Hamas-run Palestinian Health Ministry has reported hundreds of casualties since the resumption of Israel’s Operation Mighty Hand and Sword last week.
The growing unrest against Hamas follows reports of violent crackdowns by the group’s security forces. Recent social media footage appears to show masked Hamas operatives assaulting Palestinian civilians.
