Texas attorney Tony Buzbee, known for his high-profile legal challenges against music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, has withdrawn from over a dozen sex trafficking lawsuits filed against Diddy in federal court in New York.
Court documents obtained by TMZ reveal that Buzbee has formally requested to be removed as the representing attorney in 15 cases within the Southern District of New York (SDNY).
In his statement to U.S. District Judge Ronnie Abrams, Buzbee explained that he is stepping back due to his failure to secure the necessary authorization to practice law in the SDNY.
He admitted to making an “error in judgment” by not disclosing his lack of admission to the court, acknowledging that this issue had become a distraction from the victims at the center of the cases.
Although Buzbee is withdrawing from these specific lawsuits, the legal proceedings will continue, with the alleged victims now being represented by law firms based in New York.
Buzbee emphasized that his firm remains engaged in the overall case and that he continues to represent clients in other lawsuits against Diddy in different states. He also indicated that additional lawsuits against the mogul are forthcoming, with plans to file cases in Nevada and California in the near future.
Buzbee noted that his admission to the SDNY had been delayed due to a grievance lodged by rapper Jay-Z in an unrelated matter. While his withdrawal may pose a setback for the lawsuits against Diddy, the legal battles are set to continue across various jurisdictions.
