Family, friends, and advocacy groups are demanding justice for 27-year-old Zakithi Zasemhlungwini Ndaba, who was allegedly shot and killed by her boyfriend in South Africa.
Women For Change released a statement on Monday, March 17, 2025, confirming that Zakithi, who studied journalism and media studies before pursuing a culinary career, was murdered in her apartment in Sunninghill, Johannesburg.
Concern grew among Zakithi’s family when they were unable to reach her. Their fears were realized the next day when security personnel at her apartment complex discovered her lifeless body on March 7.
The suspect, Aviwe Poswa, fled the scene but later turned himself in to the South African Police Service (SAPS) on Sunday, March 16, 2025. His bail hearing is scheduled for March 20 at 8 a.m. at Alexandra Court, Room 1 in Johannesburg.
A friend, Sibusisiwe Busie, revealed in a social media post on March 17 that Zakithi had been trying to end the relationship, but Aviwe allegedly threatened to take their child away with the help of his family.
“Zakithi tried to leave Aviwe, but he used their child as leverage. This was part of his plan. If you or someone you know has been a victim of Aviwe, please come forward—your voice matters. We must stand together for Zakithi,” Busie wrote.
Zakithi leaves behind a grieving family and a young child. Loved ones remember her as a kind and vibrant soul whose life was tragically cut short by senseless violence.
Her death has reignited calls for stricter action against domestic violence and femicide. Advocacy groups are urging authorities to enhance protections for at-risk individuals and ensure justice for victims.
