An 18-year-old schoolgirl turned the tables on her attackers after being ambushed during a fight over a prom dress.
According to police, the victim met her former friend, 20-year-old Morgan Flinchum, at a gas station in Gwinnett County, Georgia, on February 26 to sell the dress. Flinchum went to try it on at a nearby Racetrac store, where an unidentified friend grabbed the dress and attempted to flee.
The victim, with the help of a male witness, chased after them but was quickly surrounded by two other young women, later identified as Kaylee George and Lelia DeJager.
Surveillance footage obtained by WSB-TV2 captured the moment the confrontation turned violent. The victim was grabbed around the waist, but in an unexpected move, she flipped her attacker over her shoulder, slamming her to the ground. The scuffle continued briefly before the attacker rolled away and left the scene with her group.
Tensions flared again while waiting for police to arrive, with Flinchum allegedly taking another swing at the victim before being stopped by the male witness. Another individual also attempted to grab the victim’s hair.
The victim later told officers she had been choked, which triggered her defensive response.
“There was a dispute, which ultimately was a civil issue between the dress and money owed to one of the parties,” said Gwinnett County Cpl. Juan Madiedo.
“Obviously, in the video, you can see it became physical, and that’s when 911 was called. It appears that all the individuals knew each other or had some familiarity with each other. There was a victim being surrounded by multiple individuals.”
Officers observed visible injuries on the victim, and Flinchum, George, and DeJager later turned themselves in.
All three were charged with theft, while DeJager and Flinchum also face battery charges.
Authorities have since reminded residents to conduct online transactions in designated e-commerce parking areas at police precincts to ensure safety.
