SAD: Paraglider plunges 656ft to his death mid-flight

A paraglider plunged to his death when his glider folded in half shortly after take off.

Mr Ricardo Stecanella tragically fell over 600ft out of the sky less than a minute into his flight.

In the shocking footage, grandfather Stecanella can be seen standing on a launch point ready to jump off a mountain top in Timbé do Sul, south west of Sao Paulo, Brazil. 

After he has taken off he glides through the air before making a a left turn, then a right turn.

About half a minute into his flight over the scenic, mountainous area, his glider appears to fold in half and he suddenly begins to rapidly descends as the camera turns away. 

The woman filming exclaimed: ‘My God!’

She then sounded distressed and began running as the footage ended.

Firefighters were called at around 1:40pm on Sunday local time and found trucker Mr Stecanella, 52, with multiple critical injuries.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is believed he died instantly upon hitting the ground after falling from such a height.

Local media reported that his body had to be winched up to a helicopter using ropes and cords.

Mr Stecanella was a lorry driver and was on leave from the Municipal Water and Sewage Authority.
