Prince William Makes Lighthearted Comment About Wanting Red Hair

Prince William brought joy to fans on Tuesday during his visit to Sporting Khalsa FC in the West Midlands, where he enthusiastically joined in on football activities.

As the Prince of Wales met with hundreds of excited children, handing out high-fives and preparing to referee a game, he couldn’t resist making a playful remark about his own hair.

Spotting a woman with striking red hair in the crowd, he patted her shoulder and exclaimed, “Your hair! It’s fantastic!”

With a smile, he added, “I wish I had hair like that! You look amazing. I’ve lost the chance.”

Pam Dawes, the woman who caught William’s attention, was thrilled by the interaction. “We had a selfie. He loved my hair,” she shared. “He was lovely, bless him. He’s made my day.”

Though William has experienced hair loss over the years, he recently surprised royal watchers by growing out a noticeable beard.

His fascination with red hair runs in the family—his mother, Princess Diana, had three red-haired siblings, and his younger brother, Prince Harry, famously inherited the Spencer gene. Harry, in turn, passed on his red locks to his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Reflecting on the unexpected trait, Harry once admitted, “I actually really, genuinely thought at the beginning of my relationship [with Meghan Markle] that… there’s no way the ginger gene will stand up to my wife’s genes—but I was wrong!” He added on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, “Go gingers. The Spencer gene is very, very strong.”

In his memoir Spare, Harry also made a cheeky remark about William’s hair, describing his brother’s baldness as “alarming” and “more advanced than mine.”
