Nollywood actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington has shared her struggle with hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness, during her second pregnancy.
The actress, who welcomed her second child in 2024 with her husband, singer Bankole Wellington (aka Banky W), spoke about her experience in response to a tragic report of a pregnant UK woman, Jess Cronshaw, who died by suicide after being bedridden due to the condition.
According to PEOPLE, Cronshaw suffered from extreme nausea and vomiting, which led to weight loss and dehydration, ultimately impacting her mental health.
In a post on her Instagram story, Adesua expressed frustration over the lack of awareness surrounding hyperemesis gravidarum, emphasizing how it significantly affects one’s quality of life. She also took a moment to appreciate her husband, doctors, family, and friends for their unwavering support.
“When I talk about the seriousness of hyperemesis gravidarum, people don’t get it, and I hate it,” she wrote. “It is not ordinary morning sickness. It is a serious condition that literally affects the quality of your life.”
