Pedestrian dead AFTER being hit by police car ‘rushing’ to emergency

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a police car which was rushing to an emergency. 

The tragic accident happened on Yardley Road in Acocks Green, Birmingham, shortly before 7pm yesterday. 

Emergency services rushed to the scene where the man, in his 40s, was sadly pronounced dead. 

A marked West Midlands Police car was responding to a 999 call when the collision happened, the force reports. 

The officers in the car were attending reports of a man carrying a knife in Warwick Road in Acocks.

Both police officers involved in the crash were not harmed. 

In a full statement, a spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: ‘A man has sadly died after a collision involving a police car and a pedestrian in Birmingham tonight.

‘The family of the man who died is being supported, and we are liaising with the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).’
