The Ogun State Police Command has initiated an investigation into a tragic incident that resulted in the death of a hunter during a group hunting expedition in the Ajinawo area of Yewa North Local Government, Ogun State.
On March 23, 2025, at approximately 4:30 PM, authorities received a report detailing a fatal accident involving a hunter identified as Taiwo Bolugbe. CSP Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the command, confirmed that five hunters have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Odutola explained that the group was conducting their hunt near the Dangote Cement Company in Ibese when the accident occurred around 3:00 PM.
The victim, Taiwo Bolugbe, was reportedly attempting to retrieve a hunted animal when his gun slipped from his shoulder, accidentally discharged, and struck him in the neck and lower jaw. Despite the efforts of his fellow hunters to save him, he succumbed to his injuries.
The case has since been forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further examination. The Police Command urges the public to exercise extreme caution when handling firearms, even during hunting activities, to prevent such tragic occurrences.
