Music Legend, Dolly Parton’s Husband, Carl Dean, Is Dead

98

Carl Dean, the longtime husband of country music legend Dolly Parton, has passed away at the age of 82.

Dean, who married Parton in a private ceremony in 1966, largely stayed out of the public eye throughout their nearly six-decade marriage. He rarely attended events with his wife, and Parton shared only a few glimpses of him over the years.

The singer announced his passing via Instagram on Monday, March 3, though no cause of death was immediately disclosed.

“Carl Dean, husband of Dolly Parton, passed away March 3rd in Nashville at the age of 82. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with immediate family attending. He is survived by his siblings, Sandra and Donnie,” the statement read.

Reflecting on their life together, Parton wrote, “Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy. The family asks for privacy during this difficult time.”

Despite his low profile, Dean was a steadfast supporter of Parton’s career from behind the scenes. He also served as the inspiration for her classic hit, Jolene.

Dean is survived by his wife, Dolly Parton, and his siblings.
