King Charles III and Queen Camilla have publicly honored Sir Timothy Laurence, husband of Princess Anne, with a heartfelt birthday message.
Posting on their official Instagram account, Their Majesties shared two images to mark Sir Tim’s 70th birthday. One photo captured him smiling in the sunshine during an official engagement, while the second featured him alongside Princess Anne at what appeared to be a royal garden party. Dressed in military uniforms, the couple beamed as a military band performed.
The accompanying caption read: “Wishing a Happy 70th Birthday to Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence!”—complete with a celebratory cake emoji. This public message marks a rare acknowledgment of Sir Tim from the royal couple.
Sir Tim and Princess Anne’s Enduring Partnership
Sir Timothy married the Princess Royal in 1992, the same year her divorce from Captain Mark Phillips—father of Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips—was finalized. While Anne and Sir Tim do not have children together, he shares a strong bond with his stepchildren.
Peter Phillips spoke fondly of their relationship in an ITV documentary celebrating Anne’s 70th birthday in 2020. He noted: “They both have an understanding of what being part of the wider family means and what is required. He’s been a very strong support for her.”
Sir Tim has also reflected on his experience marrying into the royal family. He once remarked on the similarities between Anne’s parents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, saying: “The common theme is humour and fun. One of the great surprises for me when I first went to Balmoral, Sandringham, and Windsor was that these places are full of laughter.”
Beyond royal duties, Anne and Tim share a passion for sports—especially rugby. “We both follow with great enthusiasm the Scottish rugby team,” he shared, with Anne frequently attending matches.
