A Magistrate Court in Kano has sentenced TikTok users Ahmad Isa and Maryam Musa to one year in prison each for sharing videos deemed offensive to religious and moral values.
The Kano State Censorship Board arrested the pair, accusing them of violating public decency through their social media activities.
During the court proceedings, prosecutor Garzali Maigari Bichi charged the defendants with criminal conspiracy and the dissemination of illicit content online. Both Ahmad and Maryam pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In her ruling, presiding magistrate Hadiza Muhammad Hassan also offered the convicts an alternative to imprisonment: a fine of N100,000, while encouraging them to maintain better conduct in the future.
