Gombe State: Cook Allegedly Stole 35,000USD From Syrian Employer And Sets House On Fire Afterward

The Gombe State Police Command has apprehended a 28-year-old woman, Hannatu Ibrahim, for allegedly stealing $35,000 (N53,495,400.00) from her Syrian employer, Mohammed Jurdi, and setting his house on fire in the New GRA area of Gombe.

Command spokesperson DSP Buhari Abdullahi confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. He also revealed that two other suspects, Ahmed Adamu (20) and Abubakar Ibrahim (28), were arrested in connection with the incident.

According to the police, Ibrahim, a cook employed by Jurdi, was intercepted by a patrol team from Gombe Division, found in possession of $7,100 from the stolen funds.

“On 22/03/2025 at about 8:00 PM, a distress call was received from New GRA Gombe, behind Legislative Quarters, reporting that the suspect, who worked as a cook for Mohammed Jurdi, a Syrian national attached to Triacter Nigeria Limited, had stolen $35,000 and set his house ablaze,” the statement read.

Upon receiving the report, the police patrol team responded swiftly and arrested Ibrahim. Investigations revealed that the second suspect, Adamu, had received some of the stolen money, with $100 found in his wallet. The third suspect, Abubakar, who worked as a security guard for the victim, was also taken into custody.

Recovered Exhibits:

  1. $7,100 from the first suspect (Ibrahim)
  2. $100 from the second suspect (Adamu)

The police stated that the case would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
