PR expert Nick Ede recently appeared on HELLO!’s A Right Royal Podcast, where he shared details about his past friendship with Meghan Markle and why they eventually lost touch after she began dating Prince Harry.
Nick first met Meghan during her Suits days, assisting her with agency meetings in the UK while she supported his charity events. Their friendship flourished, with the pair spending time shopping and socializing at Soho House. However, as Meghan’s relationship with Prince Harry progressed, their connection gradually faded.
When asked if he had experienced the so-called “Piers Morgan treatment”—a reference to Morgan’s claims that Meghan distanced herself from him—Nick admitted: “Things cooled off, then I got the Piers Morgan treatment in the end.”
He recalled their last exchanges, explaining: “We were messaging when she was feeling bullied, and Prince Harry had released that statement. I told her, ‘I’m glad you have someone supporting you,’ and she responded, ‘That really means a lot.’ Our friendship was genuine; we texted a lot. She was even going to write about my charity on The Tig.”
Nick also praised Meghan’s character, adding: “One thing that didn’t fully come across in the TV show is how genuinely interested she was in people. She really took the time to learn about them. That felt very authentic, and I admired that about her. Despite her glamorous presence, there was also a shyness and vulnerability that was very endearing.”
Meanwhile, Meghan’s Netflix lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, has been renewed for a second season. Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos highlighted her cultural influence, telling Variety: “Meghan is underestimated in terms of her impact. When the trailer for Harry & Meghan dropped, everything she wore was analyzed, and items sold out worldwide. People are fascinated by Meghan Markle.”
